How it works
NSAIDs block COX enzymes that make prostaglandins, the chemicals behind inflammation, swelling, fever, and much pain.
What it treats
Headache, menstrual cramps, arthritis, sprains, fever, dental pain.
Common side effects
Stomach upset, heartburn. Long-term or high-dose use raises the risk of GI bleeding, kidney issues, and cardiovascular events.
Worth knowing
Don't combine multiple NSAIDs. Use lowest effective dose. Avoid in the third trimester of pregnancy.
