How it works
ARBs block angiotensin II from binding to its receptor on blood vessels. The vessels stay relaxed and blood pressure drops.
What it treats
High blood pressure, heart failure, kidney protection in type 2 diabetes.
Common side effects
Dizziness, fatigue, occasional upper-respiratory infection. Less cough than ACE inhibitors.
Worth knowing
Do not use during pregnancy. Watch potassium intake.
